Two 14th-century Illustrations

This first image shows the Prophet Muhammad acknowledging his cousin and son-in-law ‘Ali as his successor at Ghadir Khumm. The history was written by Biruni in the 11th century, but these images come from the earliest illustrated manuscript of the work, which dates to 1307-8.

This second image from the same manuscript is the reported prayer contest between Muslims and Christians in Najran. On the right, it shows the Prophet Muhammad, his daughter Fatima and her husband ‘Ali, along with their sons Hasan and Husayn.
