This document preserves some version of the agreement between the Prophet Muhammad and the people of Yathrib (the pre-Islamic name of the city Medina). It was preserved in a number of 9th-century texts, but many consider it to be authentic because it doesn’t fit neatly with the goals of 9th-century authors.
